A new scenic opportunity 5

Coming to the end

I finished the ore bin by adding sides to the bottom chute part of the bin although they won't be visible on the layout. It just felt right to do it!  I then constructed the cross sway braces which involved half hatching the joint, that was fun and glued them on.  The most important detail was the ore bin door mechanism.  I found a small plastic rod from some old scrapped mechanism which had a gear on one end. I shaved off a narrow sliver with my xacto, filled the centre with some 005 plastic and drilled for a brass rod.  I made two tiny pillow blocks from styrene, drilled them and glued a gear rack to the door. This was a piece of Campbell's corrugated aluminium.  Once painted I glued the assembly to the bin.  Two lengths of Kappler ladder completed the model. Job done!  A very pleasant little project.  I just need to fit and re-scenic then I move on to the next job.
